Incorporating of BCHMX in traditional plastic explosives

Abstract cis-1,3,4,6-tetranitro-octahydroimidazo-[4,5-d]imidazole (BCHMX) was investigated as an energetic filler with three different plastic explosives based on matrices: C4 matrix, semtex10 matrix and EPX matrix. The original explosives, composition including RDX (1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazinane), Semtex 10 explosive PETN (pentaerythritoltetranitrate) RDX-silicone were included for comparison. Sensitivity performance parameters studied. Differential thermal analysis (DTA) to determine the behavior. sensitivities friction impact evaluated characteristics determined by measuring detonation velocity determining ballistic mortar test. also calculated all samples using EXPLO5 code. By comparing results obtained experimentally or calculation, it is clear that application of BCHMX in used matrices increases comparison explosives. Regarding sensitivity, stability tests, replacing semtex seems form promising needs further studies. On other side, BCHMX-C4 higher than C4.
